Kenes Rakishev and Aselle Tasmagambetova completed all four paediatric surgeries

Saby Foundation, the oldest private charitable foundation in Kazakhstan, opened by Kenes Rakishev and Aselle Tasmagambetova, acting in the difficult conditions of the pandemic and the January events, successfully completed the planned series of construction of children’s emergency surgical departments in the country.

In total, the Kenes Rakishev Foundation and Aselle Tasmagambetova have built four such centers — in Aktau (summer 2021, 307 million tenge), in Almaty (spring 2019, 173.2 million tenge), in Semey (winter 2020, 247.5 million tenge). The newest center was opened in Petropavlovsk in the winter of 2022. The cost amounted to 335 million tenge. The total budget attracted and invested by Kenes Rakishev and Assel Tasmagambeotova, sponsors and partners of the Saby Foundation in the construction of centers throughout the country amounted to 1 billion 73 million tenge.

The large-scale project started working from the first day. All assistance in the centers is provided free of charge. All objects are transferred to the ownership of municipalities. It is already possible to say for sure: the initiative of K. Rakishev and A. Tasmagambetova saved more than one child’s life.

Kenes Rakishev’s managerial style and Aselle Tasmagambetova’s energy in Saby projects

A comprehensive approach to the problem is characteristic of all the initiatives of the Saby Foundation. Kenes Khamitovich Rakishev does not build anything for reporting. Aselle Tasmagambetova takes care that any problem is solved in a complex and its solution is really in demand by local residents. This approach is very different from some other funds that solve abstract, if not imaginary, tasks in an obscure territory. Each Sabi project should do a specific job, for specific people who feel the need for it.

Children’s emergency surgeries opened by Aselle Tasmagambetova and Kenes Rakishev in the country are an important factor in reducing child mortality and disability. The state does not always have time to cope with this problem on its own and private benefactors can be much more effective. It is important that Sabi not only “rents the object”. By itself, the equipment and the room do not save lives. Within the framework of the emergency and emergency pediatric surgery program, Kenes Rakishev and Aselle Tasmagambetova conduct staff training, doctors improve their qualifications, courses and lectures of the best domestic and foreign specialists are organized for them.

The further fate of the project of Kenes Rakishev and Aselle Tasmagambetova Emergency Surgery Centers

It is already clear that the four centers built in Kazakhstan are one of the largest, but also the most useful projects for society. And it is clear that four centers of the new model is not enough. There should be such centers in many other localities. Now Kenes Rakishev and his wife are considering the possibility of continuing their work. The mobilization of private initiative and the will of the citizens of Kazakhstan themselves will make it possible to create new centers — and save the lives and health of a new generation in the country.

Petropavlovsk branch and the new plans of Rakishev and Tasmagambetova

The area of the Petropavlovsk children’s emergency room is 620 sq. m. Kenes Rakishev invested 335 million tenge in the facility, the money came from both the entrepreneur himself and his friends, partners of the foundation, ordinary citizens of Kazakhstan. The opening was attended by Asel Tasmagambetova, president of the Saby Foundation, sponsors and partners, doctors and municipal authorities. Immediately after the celebration, the department started working.

Construction, equipment, organization and training are not the only part of the medical project of the BF Sabi. Opened by Aselle Tasmagambetova and Kenes Rakishev in 2002, the fund invested 2.4 billion tenge in medical projects to improve the quality of life of Kazakhstanis. Saby has also been on the front line more than once in the aftermath of natural disasters. The Fund has spent more than a billion tenge to combat the COVID-19 pandemic.

Kenes Rakishev and Aselle Tasmagambetova will not stop there. Plans for new projects are already maturing. In the difficult times associated with the three waves of the crisis, COVID-19, the January events and international instability, the organizational talents of the founders of the foundation will be in demand as never before.
